Although investors are attracted to IForUT because of its consistent and stable performance, many value the ethical side of forestry as well.
Forests are vital to the environment. Growing forests store carbon, which helps reduce carbon dioxide levels and global warming. A commercial forest when designed and managed properly will also enhance the landscape, create new wildlife habitat and recreation opportunities, and provide economic activity in otherwise rural locations.
Looking ahead, forestry has an important role to play if Ireland is to meet new EU Directives on Carbon Taxes and Emission Trading Systems. As a result of this we are now starting to see the development of wood as a source of renewable, sustainable and carbon-neutral energy. Wood fuel will come in many forms from basic branchwood, sawmill residues and processed wood pellets, which will all be used to fire or co-burn in Combined Heat and Power systems.
